Tell Me Your Name

You've got remarkable depth in some of your poems. The emotive nature of your writing is by far your greatest strength. Without question the narrative voice in all of the works I have read is one of deep complexity, and it is that voice which draws me in. You have as much substance as any poet I've read on DA.

This isn't a what I would call a criticsm but rather an observation. The poems that I read in your gallery are all similar in stature and identical in the way they are executed. The substance trumps the style always, and your reliance on the emotive voice comes at the expense of expressing one's self through vocabulary. I almost sense a stubbornness in you as a writer, forcing what you wish to say regardless of the lines impact upon the formation, structure and melody of the poem. It is a case of style vs substance, but in the end, poetry must be able to express itself linguistically and melodically and that is where the voice at times holds you back.

Purely to satisfy my own curiosity, I would be interested to see what you could produce were you to give preference to style and melody.
